BACKGROUND TO THE ASSOCIATION

The Association was formed in 1959 as the Regular Defence Force Welfare Association for the purpose of promoting and protecting the interests of serving and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ie in those days the permanent Forces of the Commonwealth) and their families. In 2007 the name was changed to the Defence Force Welfare Association (DFWA) to recognise that  we now extend this purpose to both full time and reserve members.

The (previous) Minister for Defence endorses the Association and encourages membership.

The Chief of the Defence Force supports the work of the DFWA.

OUR CURRENT ISSUES

OUR CURRENT MAJOR ISSUE is Military Superannuation Indexation:    Did you know that your retirement benefits are being eroded and your standard of living is being continually reduced because the Government treats you differently than other Australians by refusing to protect the purchasing power of your military superannuation ?

Watch this short video clip as a start, and then read about this and all the other matters we are pursuing on your behalf at WHATS NEW / CURRENT ISSUES.

THE 2010 FEDERAL ELECTION and the FAIR GO! CAMPAIGN.  In conjunction with a number of other Ex Service Organisations, the DFWA undertook a successful campaign (the FAIR GO! CAMPAIGN) that called on all political parties to support indexation and targetting some 49 marginal seats.

The FAIR GO! Campaign will continue after the election... read about the election phase of the campaign and the next steps here.
